Ask Question

Will the dust extractors CT26 and CT36 pick up debris like small nails, wire insulation, etc. similar to a shop vac without damaging the machine?

The CT26 or CT36 will pick up small nails and construction debris, no problem.  As the first stage filter element in our dust extraction system is the filter bag, those items are contained, and will not harm the system.

Is it okay to use the CT series dust extractors for plaster/gyprock dust?

Yes, works great. You will lose some capacity as the fine dust will clog the pores of the dust bag, but it will not harm the machine as long as you change filter bags when needed. With the CT22/33/44/55 be sure to pull the green handle on the back of the unit which scrubs the HEPA filter regularly.

While using the Domino I found that I was unable to lock the height position fully. I was able to move it even after fully tightening the clamping lever.

In most cases there is a simple adjustment to the clamping lever that will allow you to completely lock the height adjustment.

When you lock the height adjustment, if the clamping lever is hitting the dust chute, that will prevent you from fully tightening it.
You can check this by simply locking the height adjustment, and then seeing if you can push the fence down.
Be careful not to force it; just use firm pressure, like you would when using the machine.

If you can move the fence, the fix is simple.
Simply loosen the screw on the clamping lever and remove it.
You will see that it attaches to a hex nut.
Move the lever up one or two detents on the hex nut, replace the clamping lever and test it.
This will allow for more purchase.
This should prevent the height adjustment from moving.

One thing you will want to be careful of is to avoid bearing down on the machine.
Firm pressure is all you need to hold it in place.
Make sure your work piece is secure, too.

It will take time to develop a feel for the Domino, and how to plunge into anything from pine to maple.
You will want to develop a feel for working with it before trying it on an expensive piece.
The Domino is like any other power tool, perfection comes with practice.

When would you recommend using the Long life filter bag?

The long life filter bag is not recommended for fine dust as emptying it is not convenient and exposes you to environmental hazards. The long life filter bag is recommended for sawing, planing or routing operations where you generate considerable mass and coarse dust.
The long life bag will pay for itself over time as it lasts about as long as 500 filter bags.

How do I attach another brand power tool to my Festool dust extractor?

To attach another brand tool to your Festool dust extractor, consult the manufacturer.
The Festool dust extractor has a standard 50mm hose port which will accept all standard tool hoses. The standard hose having 27mm internal diameter and fitting.
Your Festool hose may fit either the inside or outside dimension, there is also a larger a 36mm hose end available (item 487721).
Your local tool store may carry a universal step adapter if those options don't work.

Does the HEPA filter work with the CT Mini?

The HEPA filter is not available for the CT Mini. The dust bag coupled with the filter element captures 99.9% of particles passing through the extractor. The CT 22 and CT 33 come with a HEPA filter and capture 99.99% of 0.3 Micron or larger particles.

Are the bags for the CT22 and CT33 interchangeable?

Both bags have the same mounting flange.
In an emergency the smaller CT22 bag can be used in the CT33 if you place something underneath to support it.
The larger CT33 bag will fit in the CT22 as well.

How do I attach my Festool tools to another brand dust extractor?

To attach your Festool to another brand dust extractor, simply purchase a Festool hose (item 452877), which has a standard Festool coupling at the tool end, and a 50mm connector at the dust extractor end.

While using my plunge-cut saw and 55 inch guide rail, I inadvertently allowed the saw to wander off of the rail, and I nicked a piece of the guide rail. I would like to remove the damaged section, because the rail is still in good shape. Can Festool do

When using the saw and guide rail system, you must remember to always check two things.
Be sure that the saw is properly aligned to the guide rail so that there is no lateral play.
Tighten the alignment cams if necessary.
The second is the depth setting.
You will want to make sure that the saw depth is properly set for the material you are cutting.
Regarding the damage to the rail, I wouldn't cut the rail at all, it will still provide a straight cut.
Simply take a file and remove the burrs so you don

Are the solid Beech Dominos suitable for exterior use? Are there exterior dominos?

We recommend when using the solid beech Domino loose tenons for exterior applications that you use a two-part epoxy like West System or System Three, being careful to coat all surfaces in order to help minimize the impact of moisture intrusion.
Domino Sipo hardwood tenons are also available, and are great for exterior applications like furniture, shutters, gates, decks, trim, even boat building.
Sipo is a tropical hardwood similar to mahogany and is significantly more resistant to moisture, decay, fungi and termites.
Sipo tenons are legally imported from cultivated plantations.

Can I use a tool rated at more than 2400W with my Festool dust extractor?

A tool rated at 15 amps does not necessarily draw 15 amps.
This is particularly true of Festools with their soft start feature.
Using a higher amp tool with your dust extractor will normally not damage your tool or dust extractor, but on an older house you may trip 15 amp breaker. Running two sanders with our dust extractor will normally not trip a breaker.

How do I convert my Festool dust extractor to a wet vacuum?

Simply replace the filter element with the wet filter element (452924) CT22/33 or (456805) Mini. If you use it as a wet vacuum regularly you may want to purchase a dirt trap, which replaces the filter bag and is easily emptied (452925) CT22 or (452926) CT33. For emergency use, if you do not have a wet filter element, leave your regular filter in place to prevent water from being drawn into the motor housing.
Simply dry your filter element out before next use.
The water level indicator will shut your dust extractor off automatically when it's ready to be emptied.

Will the old style guide rail work with the new FS guide rails system?

Yes, the old guide rail is compatible with the new system.
The new, improved guide rail has an additional channel that helps join guide rails and is used with other Festool accessories.
You will only need one connector (482107) to join the old style guide rail to the new.

Can your routers be used with a router table?

We generally suggest you buy a fixed-base router for that task.
Festool makes a router table, but it is currently not available in the States.
The OF 1400 is ideally suited for that application with its 2 3/4

Why are so many of your bits 8mm shank?

The hefty 8mm shank boasts a 58% greater cross section than a

How do you rip boards longer than sixteen feet?

Guide rails are available in lengths from 800mm to 5000mm.
You can connect different size guide rails to create virtually any length guide rail, using connector (482107).
On the TS 55, ideally, the guide rail should be a foot longer than your cut.
This will give you opportunity to plunge your saw prior to starting your cut, and allow you to complete your cut with both alignment jibs squarely on the channel which guides the saw.
With the TS 75, the guide rail should be at least 16

Can I use my 15.6 volt charger on my 12 volt drill batteries?

What is the arbor size on the plunge-cut saw?

The ATF 55 and TS 55 have a 20mm arbor. The AT 65 and TS 75 have a 30mm arbor.

What are Domino tenons made of?

Domino tenons are made out of solid Beech, a very dense, strong hardwood.
They have tiny glue pockets embossed on the face to accommodate glue and ridges along the edges for a perfect fit.
Domino Sipo hardwood tenons are currently available, and are great for exterior applications like furniture, shutters, gates, decks, trim, even boat building.
Sipo is a tropical hardwood similar to mahogany and is significantly more resistant to moisture, decay, fungi and termites.
Sipo tenons are legally imported from cultivated plantations.

How does the splinter guard work on the Festool jigsaw?

Because Festool blades are up-cut blades, the splinter guard prevents blow-out on top. You'll get a perfect cut.
Please consult your manual before installing.
Attach the zero-clearance splinter guard to the base plate, be sure it slides properly into the groove.
Slide the splinter guard up to the blade, switch the saw on and push againt something to plunge the guard into the blade.
Do not use your hand.
Once the splinter guard is in place you won't have to change it until you change the blade.

What is the charging time on each of the batteries?

For the C12, the 1.3 ah battery charges in 25 minutes, the 2.4 ah battery in 50 minutes and the 3.0 ah in 70 minutes.

What is significant about the Centrotec system?

The Centrotec chuck holds the bit directly in the shaft of the drill and acts like a bushing on the precision machined shaft of the bits to prevent wobble or run out. Changing bits is easy and fast with the Centrotec bit.

What are the differences between the new palm sanders: RTS400, DTS400 and ETS125; compared to the older models: RS400, DS400 and ES125?

The improvements made to the new palm sanders, ETS125, RTS400, DTS400 are mainly internal; you may not notice any difference in how they look.
The counterweight has been reshaped to provide better balance and stability.
The cooling fan housing is now made of metal and the new fan is less likely to come in contact with the housing.
This lessens the tendency for the sander to hop around, and will result in fewer swirl marks.
On the ETS125, the rubber pad brake now has holes around the periphery. This prevents vacuum lock when connected to a vacuum, which allows for better pad rotation, making the sander easier to move across the work piece. This will also results in fewer swirl marks.
Some have felt that these new sanders are not as aggressive as the older models.
What you are actually noticing is improved performance and less vibration due to the improvements.

What is minimum shank insertion in the collet?

We recommend 2/3rds insertion for safety reasons, and to prevent run out or wobble. Some manufacturers indicate both minimum and maximum insertion on the shank itself. It is important not to bottom the shank out into the collet as it will expand when it heats up and potentially dislodge.

What do I have to do regarding maintenance of my jigsaw?

The Trion PS 300 EQ and PSB 300 EQ require little maintenance.
It is a good practice to blow the dust off using a compressor on a regular basis.
The only other maintenance issue is blade alignment.

What is unique about Festool jigsaws is the three point blade alignment.
Of particular concern are the carbide jaws which guide the blade and prevent sway out.
First, these must be centered.
You will want to do this with the saw blade fully extended with the saw set in full orbital mode

Will the 36mm diameter hose work with all Festool tools?

The 36mm diameter hose is recommended for use with the planer HL850 and the routers OF1400 and OF2000. It will improve dust extraction as it has a 33% greater capacity. The 36mm hose will not work with the sanders, the OF1010 router and the jigsaws since the dust port has a 27mm diameter.

How loud are the Festool dust extractors?

The Festool dust extractors peak at 72db, though their low resonance is engineered to be more pleasing than the high pitched whine of a standard shop vac.
When operating a power tool with our dust extractor, you will normally only hear the tool, and not the extractor.

What is the difference between the Long Life filter element and the filter element that came with my dust extractor?

The Long Life Filter Element has an 'M' fold which makes it easier to clean and maintain.
The material is also more durable and can be exposed to moisture without damaging it.

Can I exchange a FS 1400/2 for a longer guide rail when I purchase the TS55?

Yes, you simply pay the difference in cost. You can also join two guide rails to create a longer rail using connectors (482107).
Two are required to join the new style guide rail.

Can I use another brand router with your Guide Rail system?

The guide stop is what allows you to attach Festool routers to the guide rail system. We are currently not aware of any after market item that would enable you to adapt another router to the guide rail. Festool routers also have a center of cut indicator, which is critical for lateral alignment.

Will all tools work on both styles of rails?

Yes, though not all accessories are compatible with the old style guide rail. The angle unit (491588) works just with the new style guide rail.

How do I set the router bit depth?

Place about 2/3 of the shank in the collet and tighten. You don't want to bottom the bit out as the shaft will expand as it heats up. Loosen the depth post lock (see manual). With the router table flat, plunge the bit, and when it is stopped, tighten the plunge lock. Use the closest depth stop turret and set your depth indicator at zero. You are now ready to set your depth, simply raise the indicator to the desired depth and set depth post lock. The green, micro adjust knob will move the bit up or down 1/10 mm to adjust. See your manual for complete details.
A copy of your manual is available under the service section of our website under tool manuals.

How big of a cut-out can I make with the MFS 400 or the MFS 700?

The profiles on the MFS 400 are 7 7/8

I recently purchased a Festool sander and it seems to experience fluctuations in power.

All Festool 230 volt power tools use brush-type universal motors with self-seating brushes.
These brushes are serrated on the surface with narrow triangular grooves. The grooved texture of this surface needs to be worn down to the solid carbon substrate before the tool will reach peak performance. This is called the break in period. During this break-in period the brush takes on the same cylindrical shape that perfectly matches the curvature of the spinning armature, resulting in full contact. Some of our tools need to be run for as long as 10 hours before the brushes take on this shape and the motor develops full power.
Your sander will be susceptible to power line fluctuations during this period and may not run at a constant speed.

This difference in power is more noticeable in the tools with smaller motors such as the ETS 125, DTS 400and RS 400 sanders.
A new small sander doesn

Is there a 1/2' collet available for the OF1010?

Which hose do you recommend for optimal dust extraction?

The D27 (27mm diameter) hose, which comes with Festool dust extractors, works with all of the Festool tools except the planer, for optimal dust extraction.
Using that hose with the Festool sanders, you will need to turn the speed down on dust extractor to prevent the sander from pulling down to the sanding surface.
You do not need a larger diameter hose with the sander to achieve optimum dust extraction, in fact, the larger diameter hoses (D36 or D50) will not fit on the sanders.
The planer requires the larger diameter hose because the shavings produced are bulky and tend to clog a hose with a smaller diameter than D36.
On both OF 1400 and OF 2000 routers, the greater volume of air moved by the D36 hose helps accommodate the waste produced, which is being ejected at high velocity.
So for optimum dust extraction on those routers, the D36 hose is required.

Normally the D27 hose is all you need for optimum dust extraction using the TS 55 plunge cut saw.
Though depending on what material you are cutting and at what depth, the larger diameter D36 hose better accommodate the greater volume of waste produced.
The same goes for the TS 75 plunge cut saw, which has the capacity to generate greater
waste mass.
When you join two hoses for added length, it is good to use the larger diameter hose for optimum dust extraction.
We do not recommend running more than 23 feet of hose.
You can attach a D36 hose to a D27 and you won

Why is dust extraction so important?

The importance of working with dust extraction cannot be overstated.
Dust is a potential health hazard.
Prepping the work area for dust as well as cleaning up after it is a nuisance.
Dust affects the quality of your result as well.
The health effects of wood dust are numerous: skin irritation and skin sensitization, allergic and non-allergic respiratory effects, nasal effects, and even biohazards.
That is just wood dust.

Fiber board is manufactured with synthetic resin, which is usually formaldehyde-based.
The national occupational health and safety committee lists formaldehyde as a probable human carcinogen.
Exposure to dust from solid surface, paint and concrete-based products poses similar health risks.
No matter how well you prep or how much time you spend cleaning up, you never seem to get all of the dust.
Dust is the inevitable result of working with power tools.
Think about how much time and money you would save working with efficient dust extraction.
Dust will affect the quality of your work result, particularly when sanding.
Build up on abrasives lessen their effectiveness and can mar a hard-wrought finish.

How does the guide rail stick to the surface?

There are two non-skid strips on the back of the guide rail which prevent it from sliding.
When making a cut, the line of force in directly in line with your cut line.
That downward pressure helps to keep the guide rail in place.

Can you use clamps with the guide rail system?

There are two channels on the guide rail which will accept clamps.
One is on the left side of the guide rail and the other is underneath.
Festool make a variety of clamps which can be used with the guide rail.
Please see the links listed below.

Clamping is recommended for routing operations to compensate for in-thrust and out-thrust forces.
Clamping can help prevent mistakes from bumping or accidentally moving your guide rail.
Clamping is ideal when working with bowed, warped, cupped or twisted stock.

Can you use other tool brands with Festool Guide System?

Festool guide rail technology was introduced in 1964, and has set the industry standard for over 40 years.
The innovative quality of zero-clearance, splinter-free saw cuts, where your cut line is the same for plumb or bevel cuts, and the precise lateral adjustment capabilities when using a router with the guide rail have never been matched.
The guide rail can be used as a straight edge when working with other tool brands, but to my knowledge there are no aftermarket kits available to adapt other brand tools to the Festool guide rail system.

Does the dust extraction hose fit all of your tools?

The D27 hose (27 mm diameter), that comes with the Festool dust extractors, works with all of the Festool tools.
The D36 hose, which is available as an accessory, works with all of the tools except the sanders.

Are the Festool plug-it cords interchangeable?

There are two types of plug-it cords.

The lighter 18 gauge plug-it cord works with most of the sanders but will not work with the saw, router or planer.
It has a keyway which prevents it from being used with these tools.

The heavier 16 gauge plug-it cord that comes with the saws and routers will fit all of the tools.
If the plug-it cord fits, it is safe to use.
Do not attempt to modify a plug-it cord to make it fit.

Festool offers three (3) bit holders type BHS65, BH60 and BV 150 CE (extension). Which of these bit holders are magnetic ones?

All three of these bit holders are magnetic.

What are Systainers made of? How many pounds can the handle support?

Systainers are made of ABS plastic.
The advantage of ABS is that it combines the strength and rigidity of the acrylics with the toughness of rubber.
The most amazing mechanical properties of ABS are resistance and toughness.
Impact resistance does not fall off rapidly at lower temperatures.

The handle is rated at 200 kg, or 440 lbs.

Can I reduce my D36 hose down to use it with a D27 reducing sleeve and hook it up to my Festool sander?

The D36 hose (36mm diameter) will not work with the D27 reducing sleeve.
The D27 hose (27 mm diameter), that comes with the Festool dust extractors, works with all of the Festool tools.
The D36 hose, which is available as an accessory, works with all of the tools except the sanders.

The black connector (tool side) on my CT-22 D27 hose came off. It looks like it should screw back on, but I can't get it to screw in. Any tricks for reattaching the connector?

There are three parts to the reducing sleeve (487071), the part that attaches to the tool, the part that threads onto the hose, and a locking ring.
To disassemble the reducing sleeve, take a key or small screw driver and depress the two inset tabs right near the hose end.

That will allow you to remove the locking ring; you will find the part that treads onto the hose.
Place the locking ring onto the hose, thread the collar onto the hose (reverse threads) and then snap the tool-end back on.
If you are having difficulty threading the collar onto the hose, check the hose end.
If it is damaged, trim to make fit.
Remember that the hose is reverse-treaded.

How can I accurately transfer angles from my angle unit to the MFT?

The angle unit can be used like a sliding bevel gauge or T-bevel to capture angles and transfer them to the MFT.

Raise the positioning or detent pin on the protractor head on the MFT and turn the pin so that it locks in the upright position.
Loosen the fence rail clamp to allow the fence to move freely.
Capture the angle you need to copy, and lock it into place.
Place the extruded aluminum body of the angle unit against the guide rail and move the fence until it abuts the stamped steel arm of the angle unit.
Lock the fence rail clamp to hold your position.
Or you can calibrate your angle unit with your MFT, and use the scale on the angle unit to set the angle on the protractor head of your MFT.
Once you have the fence calibrated at 90 degrees on your MFT, check it against the angle unit.
The angle unit can be adjusted by loosening the two Allen bolts on the black plate below the knob.
Check to make sure the readings are the same at 45 degrees, adjust if necessary.
Both scales will now read the same.

Why are there different size bits?

The four different size Domino cutters (D5, D6, D8 & D10 millimeters) correspond to the thicknesses of the different size Domino tenons. There are five Domino tenon sizes

How do I rip multiple pieces of wood, for a given width or length, so that they are exactly alike, using the Festool saw, guide rail and MFT?

Repeat parallel cuts of the same width or length are possible using the saw and guide rail system and the MFT.
The MFT comes with an end stop (490555) that attaches to the fence for repeat cuts.
There is also a longitudinal stop (488564) available for cutting narrower pieces.

With the guide rail system, you can cut as accurate as you can measure.
To set up repeat cuts, you can use a combination square or gauge block to set the guide rail where you need it.

Customers have used the edge guide or side stop (485758) from the Hole drilling set to position the guide rail for repeat cuts.
The aluminum hexagonal stock used on the edge guide is ready available and can be used to extend the edge guide.

Will the Domino tenons swell in humid conditions? How do I best protect Domino tenons against swelling?

Domino tenons are made from solid beech wood, not compressed beech shavings like a biscuit joint, so they are far less susceptible to swelling from humidity.
Moreover, Domino tenons are treated to prevent swelling.

Nevertheless, if swelling does occur, the Domino tenon

What applicators work best for gluing?

Applicators, though convenient, generally do not do a good job of applying glue, and the glue is the strength of the joint.

We recommend that you squeeze glue directly into the mortise, then dab the sides with either a q-tip or brush.
Some prefer disposable flux or acid brushes.

Be sure to wipe glue along the face and down the edges of the Domino tenon as well.
Don

Are there adaptors available to use the Domino joiner with my Oneida dust collection system?

You can simply use a Festool hose to hook the Domino to your dust extraction system.
The standard 11.5

How much wiggle room does the Domino joiner allow to align your mortise and Domino tenon?

The mortise width dial on the Domino joiner has three different settings to suit your application.
You can set it for precise registration to align your work piece perfectly along two axes.
This setting is ideal when used with the stop pins or locating pins on the base plate of the Domino joiner, and the narrow frame fence or trim stop.
No lay out marks are required.
The Domino joiner will index itself and your joints will align perfectly using this features.

You can adjust the mortise width for 6mm or 10mm (1/4

I understand that there will be a new manual available for the Domino written by Rick Christopherson. Will it be available in Australia or via your website?

We will post the supplementary Domino manual on the Festool USA website when it becomes available.

Do I need to use the outriggers or stabilizers with my Boom Arm?

The outriggers will prevent the dust extractor from tipping over when the Boom Arm swings in a wide arc.

When you have the Boom Arm positioned opposite of you with the CT unit nested under the multifunction table, when your work is confined to the table top, there is less of a chance of knocking it over.

But if you are sawing or routing, for instance, and pulling on the hose or cord in the process, it is possible to topple the unit.
We recommend configuring the outriggers underneath the CT dust extractor where they are out of the way, so as to prevent the possibility of an accident.

What's the fastest way to apply glue to the mortise and Domino tenon?

As you are already saving considerable time using the Domino joining over traditional methods, we suggest that you take care when gluing up to ensure a good, solid joint.

Simply squirt glue in the mortise and coat the sides with either a q-tip or brush.
Some prefer using a disposable flux or acid brush for this.
Brush glue across the face of the Domino tenon and along the edge as well.
The patented glue pockets on the face of the Domino tenon ensure good adhesion.
Be generous with the glue, you don

Is it possible to get a strong joint without applying so much glue that it squeezes out?

As your mortise and Domino tenon are set back from the edge of the work piece, squeeze-out is generally not a problem.

Be sure to apply plenty of glue to the mortise, brush it around and brush it on the face and along the edge of the Domino tenon as well.
You will also want to glue both joint surfaces, as that will greatly increase your glue surface area and joint strength.
That is where you will want to watch for squeeze out, as with any other type of glue joint.

How tall is the Boom Arm when set up?

The Boom Arm is just under 2m.

How loud is the Domino joiner?

The Domino joiner is remarkably quiet.
You cannot really compare it to a router; it is quieter than most power tools, and makes about as much noise as a small sander.
It has a high precision 420 watt motor with a sophisticated gear box to minimize noise.
The mortising action of the cutter does not produce significant sound.
Most people will remark on just how quiet it really is.

How does using the Domino joiner differ from using a router for mortising?

Using a router for mortising is a cumbersome, time consuming, and imprecise science requiring various jigs or templates in addition to the router.
Layout and execution is an involved process and perfect alignment is not guaranteed, requiring additional reworking.
The Domino joiner simplifies this process considerably.
Perfectly-aligned loose tenon joints are quick and easy, accomplished in a fraction of the time saving you time and headaches.

I am thinking of taking my Boom Arm to the job site. How long does it take to set up and break down?

Once you become familiar with how the Boom Arm attaches to your CT dust extractor, you will see that it is quite easy.
You can disassemble and reassemble the unit in just a few minutes.

Will the Domino joiner be available in package deals, i.e., with multifunction tables or vacuums?

The Domino joiner will be offered in packages with the mobile dust extractors.
Please see our website for details and updates.

What is the load capacity of the MFT multifunction table?

The multifunction table is rated for 60 kg.

Why should I consider purchasing the Domino joiner?

The mortise and tenon joint is one of the oldest and most time honored joints in wood working.
Time consuming to cut by hand, and cumbersome to cut using router and jigs, you can now cut and assemble loose tenon joints in seconds using the Domino joining system.
The Domino joiner will revolutionize how you join work pieces.
Simply cut your mortise with the Domino joiner and assemble using Domino loose tenons. There is not a faster, more efficient, easier, stronger or more versatile joining system on the market today.
It will not only save you time and money, but it will enable you to join narrow pieces with complex angles quickly, making complicated tasks simple.
On large work pieces, you can join all of the components without laying out and measuring simply by using the indexing features on the Domino joiner.

What is the cutting capacity for the steel cutting blade (493351) for the TS 75?

The steel cutting blade is ideal for cutting steel clad doors and mild steel up to 3mm (1/8

Does Festool make PSA sanding discs?

PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) or self-adhesive sanding discs have a major disadvantage as you cannot reuse them. This is particularly a problem when finishing sanding, as you often don't use up the entire disc before you go to the next grit. With PSA you have to throw the abrasive away, you cannot reuse it.
With hook and loop, you simply re-attach it. Studies have shown that hook and loop discs are more economical for that reason.

What is the difference between the three battery types for the 12 volt cordless drills?

The primary difference between the three battery types is the ampere hour rating.
An ampere hour (abbreviated Ah, or sometimes amp hour) is the amount of energy charge in a battery that will allow one ampere of current to flow for one hour.

So what we are talking about essentially is battery run time.
All three batteries produce the same amount of torque.
With the increased run time there is a corresponding increase in charging time.
So the 1.3 Ah NiCd charges in 25 minutes, the 2.4 Ah NiCd charges in 50 minutes and the 3.0 Ah NiMH charges in 70 minutes.
There is also a weight difference between the 1.3 Ah NiCd and both 2.4 Ah NiCd and the 3.0 Ah NiMH.
The 1.3 Ah battery is about half a pound lighter than either the 2.4 Ah or the 3.0 Ah.

The Systainer port will hold up to eight Systainer 1

Does the set screw for the eccentric bushing used to adjust the locating pin or stop pin on the DF 500 Domino Joiner have Loctite on it?

To calibrate the stop pins on the DF 500 Domino Joiner, you will need to loosen the set screw in order to adjust the eccentric bushing.

Use a 2mm T-handle Allen wrench to do so, making sure your wrench is securely seated to avoid stripping the Allen screw.

As they apply a Loctite-like product at the factory, you will need to give it a good twist.
When you will feel it break loose, you will be ready to make your adjustment.
Make sure the set screw is resecured after adjustment.

There is a downside to Li-Ion.
Lithium-ion technology has not yet fully matured though it is being improved continuously. New metal and chemical combinations are being tried every six months to increase energy density and prolong service life. The improvements in longevity after each change will not be known for a few years.
One problem with the Li-Ion battery is the ease with which it can be damaged during use. The Li-Ion battery carries a very large amount of energy in a small package. Combined with the fact that the internal resistance is fairly high, you have the potential for failure. If a cell is accidentally shorted, the battery will fail.
NiCad and NiMh are much more forgiving.
Another easy way to destroy a Li-Ion battery is by discharging it too far. An internal chemical reaction will occur where the electrodes corrode through a process which can not be reversed by recharging. If this occurs, battery capacity will be permanently lost.
A similar process will occur if a Li-Ion cell is charged to too high of a voltage. If current is continually forced into a fully charged cell, internal corrosion takes place which will permanently reduce cell capacity.
Aging of Li-Ion is an issue that is often ignored. Battery capacity begins to diminish from the moment it rolls off of the assembly line.
A Li-Ion battery in use will last no more than a couple of years. Eventually, the cell resistance reaches a point where the pack can no longer deliver the stored energy although the battery may still have ample charge. For this reason, an aged battery can be kept longer in applications that draw low current as opposed to functions that demand heavy loads, like a cordless drill.
So for laptops and cell phones where there is a relatively low voltage draw, the Li-Ion is ideal.
But for power tools, battery life becomes an issue.
A lithium-ion battery provides far fewer discharge/charge cycles than either a NiCad or NiMh battery.
Although Festool is looking into Li-Ion, we waiting till we can provide a battery which will deliver the same long service life guarantee of our tools.

I have recently purchased a TS 75. Is there a way to lock the saw down at the set cutting depth while cutting?

The plunge cut saw does not allow you to lock the blade at a specified depth for safety reasons.
If you should lose control of the saw for any reason, no problem, the blade retracts back into the housing.
Plus the TS 75 has an additional slip clutch to help prevent kick back if the saw blade should bind.
The only time that you can lock the TS 75 at depth is when removing the saw blade.
This also engages the kill switch and arbor lock.
Another important safety feature.
You can make any type of cut that you can make with a standard circular saw using the TS 75 with the added advantage of accurate depth adjustment.
Simply set your cutting depth, plunge and cut.

Are there plans to offer the KAPEX KS 120 in the U.S.A.? If so, when?

We hope to offer the Kapex KS 120 sliding compound miter saw mid-2008.
Please see our website for details, there will be an announcement when we are ready to ship.

The Dominos that I purchased with the tool fit very tight in the mortise cut by the tool. Is this normal? The tightness makes it difficult to dry fit 2 boards joined edge-to-edge.

Mortise size is determined by feed rate, you want to plunge quickly, without forcing the machine.
You will develop a feel for the proper feed rate.
The harder the wood, the tighter the fit.
Mortising the end grain of a wood species will create a tighter mortise than mortising the side grain of the same species.
The key, again, is a quick feed rate.
We have had cases where the Dominos tenons had swollen beyond tolerance.
Each (=100%) Domino is measured using optical sensors on the assembly line.
Less than 1% might be not perfect.
We will replace any Dominos that are out of tolerance free of charge.
Here are the tolerances:
Length: - 0.5mm (0.019 inches).
None are too long.
Width: +/- 0.15mm (0.005 inches).
Thickness: +/- 0.1mm (0.003 inches).

Humidity can lead to minor changes in size. That is why we have a breakaway ridge along each edge of the Domino.
If the tenon widens due to humidity, this shears off when driven into the mortise.
Where the fit is critical however is with thickness.
Even a slight change will affect the Dominos which are tight by design to ensure a good glue bond.
That is the purpose of the glue pockets along the face.
Most of the time overly tight fitting Dominos have been a factor of feed rate, where they were plunging too slow.
As with any new tool, practice makes perfect.

I recently purchased a tool and was wondering what I need to do to register it for warranty purposes?

There is no need to register your tool; that is done automatically for you at purchase.
We are able to track the serial number directly from our warehouse.
The card you receive with your tool is for your records.

How do you adjust the TS75 saw to the guide rail?

To adjust the saw to the guide rail, place it on the rail and tighten the two green alignment cams on the left of the saw base.
Try to slide the saw on the rail.
If it does not move freely and easily, simply ease off on the cams slightly.
Check to see if there is any lateral play.
When the saw moves freely without any sideways movement, you are ready to cut the splinter guard.
Set the saw depth to ten millimeters, see the depth gauge on the blade housing.
Turn the speed down to one.
Hang the splinter guard over the edge of your work area slightly, plunge the saw and cut the splinter guard.
Now your zero-clearance is set.
The edge of your rail is now your cut line.

I have a TS 75 and I will be cutting 3/4 inch MDF with your 72 tooth saw blade. What speed setting do you recommend for cutting this material with this blade? How many sheets can I stack and cut in the same pass? Is there anything I need to be aware of wh

We normally recommend the fine tooth saw blade (493199) for cutting MDF, though the universal saw blade (493198), which comes with the saw, does a good job as well.
You can stack as many as three sheets when gang cutting.
Adjust your feed rate to avoid burn marks.
Run the saw at full speed.
The 72 tooth saw triple chip blade (493201) that you refer to is what is recommended for cutting melamine

How does the hose fit into the hose garage?

The easiest way to nest your hose and cord in the hose garage is to first coil the cord in a fairly tight coil, about a foot in diameter.
Place it in the middle of the hose garage, so that you can easily reach the handle.
Then feed your hose in, wrapping it around the outside of the cord.
Both cord and hose will fit neatly inside.

What is the best way to cut a big circle in a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood with Festool equipment?

Can I cut soapstone with the TS55 or TS75? What blade should I use?

The TS55 and TS75 were developed primarily for wood working applications.

The highly invasive and abrasive stone dust generated when cutting this material invades every nook and cranny on the saw and shortens its working life.

For this reason, we do not make diamond blades for these saws.

I know that Festool has an adapter to split the vac hose for two different tools. Do you need a splitter so you can trigger the vac from either tool? Can I run both tools at the same time?

Insert a simple three-way plug into the CT dust extractor outlet to plug in multiple tools.
Be sure to use a quality three-way plug, generally one rated for 15 amps.
When either tool is activated, or both,
the dust extractor will be too.

What is the hole in the back of the Sysport for?

Simply press the green drawer-release button on the front of the Sysport, then slide a screwdriver - flat-head or Phillips - into the hole in the back of the Sysport and it will release the drawer immediately, no problem.

Are all Festool tools made with metric markings, or are they available with typical US markings?

Currently all Festool tools use the metric system, though we are looking into developing products specific to the US market using Imperial Standard markings.

If you are lacquering furniture and want to bring the sheen up as high as possible, what steps and pads would you use?

The French Polishing process will give you a general idea on technique, please see the attached articles.
French polishing is done with shellac, which is alcohol soluble.
You can achieve the same result with lacquer, following the process outlined below.
Please refer to product recommendations.
It really depends on how far they want to go.
You will sand between coats with 320 until your final coat.
After sanding up to 400 in the Brilliant, you switch to the Platin, and sand in random orbital mode up to 1000.
At 2000 you switch to rotary mode, and buff the surface with 2000 and 4000 grit.
This is done dry; there is no need to wet sand with Platin.

After 4000 you switch to the polishing felts.
You use the hard felt when using the polishing compound, which you apply to the work surface and then slowly spread at low speed.
When the entire surface has a light, even coat, you turn the speed up and buff, again in rotary mode.
Done by hand, this requires considerable elbow grease.

My orbital sander leaves swirl marks, is there something wrong?

The constant movement of the sandpaper across the work piece is critical to good results.
An orbital sander should always be in motion in long brisk strokes back and forth along the grain of the wood.
That way the abrasion from the small circular orbit gets stretched out into long ellipses that line up with the grain.
You should use these sanders (RS2, RS400, DS400, etc.) like you would use a paint spray gun.
You never want to stop moving or you will get a buildup of paint.
If you stop moving the sander you will wind up with a patch of swirl marks.
Always keep your orbital sander moving to avoid swirl marks.
It is also important to turn your dust extractor down to the lowest, appropriate setting to avoid swirl marks.
Otherwise the suction will pull the sander down to the work piece and mar the surface.
Wipe you hand across the surface, if it comes up clean, your setting is correct.

Does the Domino joiner try to move side to side as it cuts?

You will want to make some test cuts to get used to the Domino joiner. Boring into soft wood is going to be different than boring into plywood or hardwood. Because the cutter both rotates and oscillates from side to side, you will want to start by easing the cutter into the work piece. Do not attempt to force it.

Be sure your work piece is secure, and then hold your Domino joiner securely against your work piece and you won

What makes your Cristal abrasive remove material up to 40% faster?

Cristal is open-coated and has a harder variety of aluminum oxide. The bonding is a phenolic resin, for extreme durability, and the paper backing is heavy duty.
On painted or clear-finished surfaces, fiberglass and fillers, you will have the most aggressive material removal with Cristal.
Because it is open-coated it does not as readily clog, so it lasts longer, too.

However with Cristal there will be more artifacts to clean up.

The new RO 150 FEQ has an arbor lock which you engage to twist the pad off by hand.
It is a completely different pad.

Which size Domino tenon should I use for which thickness of material?

Generally, the Domino thickness should be one third the thickness of the work piece. When joining

When using the indexing feature on the Domino joiner - the stop pins or locating pins on the base plate - does the first mortise have to be cut to the exact size? Can I make the other mortises wider?

Cutting your mortise to the exact size by using the first setting on the mortise width dial will allow you to use the Domino joiner for registration to perfectly align your work piece.
When using the Domino joiner for case work, or for running Domino tenons in series, we suggest that you use the Domino tenons at both ends for registration.
The mortises in the field can be laid out and cut using the cross-stop and one of the wider mortise settings to provide side-to-side play for quick and easy assembly.

What is the DF 500 Q Domino joiner?

The Domino joiner will revolutionize how you join work pieces.

How does the Domino joiner work?

The bit on the Domino joiner both spins and oscillates side to side to cut perfect mortises.
There are four different cutters, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm and 10mm for five different size Domino tenons. Depth adjusts to accommodate Domino tenon length.
Domino tenons can be off-set to accommodate different material thicknesses.
Please see link below.

What does the green knob on top of the Domino joiner do?

The green knob on top of the Domino joiner is the mortise width dial for setting mortise width.
When using the stop-pins to index off of an edge of the work piece, use the first setting.
This will cut a narrow mortise for a tight fit to align the work piece.
The wider mortise settings are for running Domino tenons in series using the cross-stop when precise alignment is not needed.
Using the cross-stop to cut mortises in series saves time on layout.

Do I need to register a used tool I purchased?

There is no need to register used tool purchases.
We can trace the serial number to the purchase date for warranty purposes.

How do the stop-pins and cross-stop work?

The stop-pins on either side of the fence allow you to align the Domino joiner off the edge of a work piece for precise positioning. Miters and butt joints will align perfectly when the stop pins and fence are used for alignment.

The cross-stop allows you to place Domino tenons in a series without measuring.
Simply set your spacing, hook the cross-stop into your first mortise and use the cross-stop to index your mortises.

How do you glue the Domino tenons?

For best results, squeeze yellow glue, polyurethane or epoxy into the mortise and use a brush or q-tip to swab the sides.
Lightly brush each face and along the edge of the Domino tenon and insert it.
Brush glue along the face of your joint, clamp and allow to set.

How does the trim stop work?

The trim stop is an adjustable fence that attaches to the base of the Domino joiner and allows you to center or off-set the Domino joiner on narrow work pieces for perfect positioning.

Is there a new improved base plate for for TS 55 EQ?

In the next few months any new production of the TS 55 saw will have a slightly different version of the base plate installed.
This new base plate will have replaceable inserts at the slide surfaces, so that if these areas wear, the slide surfaces can be renewed without changing out the entire base plate.
Wear is not an issue under normal use.
The improvement was made for specific customers that are cutting hundreds of feet of solid surface and granite composite countertop material on a weekly basis.
The abrasive dust created by solid surface materials wears out the base plate along the slide surfaces prematurely.
This has never been an issue when the saw is being used to cut wood.
Again, let me emphasize that premature base plate wear is not an issue under normal, daily use.
If the base plate of the current model saw wears out prematurely and the saw is sent in, it will be replaced with the new base plate at no extra charge under warranty.
Please consult our service department prior to sending your saw in, as Festool will not automatically replace the current base plate with the new version of the base plate at no charge unless it does wear out prematurely.

There has been lot of hubbub over the new version of the base plate.
Again, it is only when the saw is being used for cutting solid surface materials under extreme conditions that this has ever been an issue.
Premature wear resulted from shops using the saw to cut hundreds of feet of solid surface material every week.
There is no benefit to the new base plate other than this simple modification.
On the newly designed base plate, if the small black plastic parts wear out, you simply exchange them rather than the entire base plate.

I trust this clears this matter up.
This change is for the TS55 only.
Nothing has changed with the base plate of the TS75.
The saw with the new base plate will begin shipping soon.

What do you do when armature of C12 brushless motor wears out?

The C12 is the only cordless drill with a brushless motor.
Your typical cordless is only good for about 250,000 screws.
The C12 has run over a million screws in tests.
Your standard cordless drill has carbon brushes that make contact with the spinning coils in the armature.
The coils in the C12 motor are in a stationary field, and the permanent magnets are in the armature. The permanent magnets need no electrical contact, so the motor does not have brushes that will wear out or an armature that will wear from contact like a conventional motor.
The only thing that can possibly wear on the C12 is the ball bearings.

Which sander would be the best to use to sand and finish sheetrock seams? Which dust collection system?

Customers have used any number of our sanders, both random orbital and orbital, for sheetrock/drywall applications.
If you plan to purchase one sander specifically for that use, I would suggest either the RTS 400 or DTS 400 for the following reasons.
First is that they are lightweight and well suited for overhead and vertical work. Second is that because of the pad shape, you can reach into corners and run it along adjacent walls without damaging the adjoining surface.
The pad is also flat for a flat finished surface. Third is that drywall compound is soft, and does not require an aggressive sander, so the light sanding action of these orbital sanders is ideal.
Fourth, is the very efficient dust extraction of Festool sanders, and these two sanders in particular.
You will get almost 100%.
Last is that the cost of abrasives for these sanders is less than with other sanders.
The downside of this sander is that you are covering less surface area while sanding.
Customers generally buy the ETS 125 for this and other applications because it is a great all around sander.
It is lightweight and ideal for overhead work.
Because it is a random orbital sander with a 5

Fourth, is the very efficient dust extraction of Festool sanders, and these two sanders in particular.
You will get almost 100%.
Last is that the cost of abrasives for these sanders is less than with other sanders.
The downside of this sander is that you are covering less surface area while sanding.
Customers generally buy the ETS 125 for this and other applications because it is a great all around sander.
It is lightweight and ideal for overhead work.
Because it is a random orbital sander with a 5

I'm getting ready to build some kitchen cabinets and would like to use the OF 1400 router for cutting the dados in the cabinet boxes. My question is, how do I use the router/guide rail combination to rout to a scribe line? I have the guide stop to attac

The quickest way to rout dados in cabinet boxes is to use the router with the Festool multifunction table.
Once you set the multifunction table up, that will place your guide rail perpendicular to the fence, and square to your work piece.
You can set stops for repeat cuts.
If you are using the guide rail without the table, you will have two series of marks, one for your dado, and one to align your guide rail square to your work piece.
You will notice on the base plate of the OF 1400, or any of our routers, that there is a center mark.
You will align this center mark with the center of your dado.
Rather than mark the outsides of your dado as you may be used to, you simply mark the center.
You then use the fine adjustor on the guide stop to place the router spot on.
The reason you hold the router 5mm or about 3/16

How can I extend the service life of my sanding pad?

Sanding pads are consumable, because they are exposed to extreme conditions. How well they hold up depends on good technique. Heat has the greatest impact on pad life.
Using dust extraction helps to cool the pad and keep it clean. A clean pad is a cool pad. Using dust extraction with your sander will improve surface quality and make your pad last longer. Turn your dust extractor down to 25% on palm sanders: if you can wipe your hand clean across the surface you have enough.
Turn it up to optimize extraction, and for larger sanders. If the dust extractor pulls the sander down that too will produce excess heat. If you are using your sander with just a dust bag, it will run up to 25% hotter than with dust extraction.
A sander works best when minimum pressure is applied. Let the sander do the work. If you are pushing your sander, you will create deep scratches below the surface that higher grits will not erase. In the end, you will spend more time sanding, use more paper, and won

I am having problems with the plug-it cords pulling out of the socket while in use. I turn the plug-it mechanism to secure it to the tool but it does not hold properly.

If you do not twist the plug-it cord a full quarter turn, it will not lock and will pull right out.
The new improved plug-it is a little stiffer; you may have to give it a good twist.
If you squirt a little lubricant in the opening of the housing at the base of the prongs, being careful not to get it on the electrical contacts, it will loosen up nicely.

What are the different sanding pads for?

Not all sanding pads are available for all sanders.
For the six-inch sanders there are a number of pad options.
The long life pad (491935) has a reinforced edge and a distict hook and loop design which has high heat resistant.
The long life pad is ideal for heavy stock removal or sanding old finishes.
The soft pad (486381) is the universal sanding pad.
It can be used on curved surfaces, edges or flat areas and produces a high surface quality.
The super soft pad (486382) has a more elastic texture.
It is ideal for profiles, contours and tight curves.

The hard pad (484850) is ideal for maintaining flat surfaces and particularly good on narrow edges.
The interface pad(492212) adds a soft touch for sanding between finishes or highly contoured surfaces.
The PoliStick pad (485748)will enable you to use polishing accessories: either sponges or felt, as well as sheepskin.

What is the difference between the FiberFix and the StickFix sanding pad for the RAS 115?

The StickFix pad accepts hook and loop sanding discs.
The FiberFix pad has an arbor to attach grinding discs.

What abrasives should be used for solid surface work?

Titan is recommended as it has a stearated coating which prevents clogging and helps to buff the surface. Where Titan is not available, we recommend Brilliant.
Brilliant and Titan are the same type of abrasives, only the coatings differ.
Vlies is similar to a scotch-brite or scouring pad and will polish the surface to either a satin or semi-gloss finish, depending on which grit.
It is important to not skip steps when sanding solid surface, and to use all of the grits up to the desired finish.
For a satin finish, begin with Titan 120 and work up to Titan 240 followed by 280 Vlies.
Use the rotary mode when polishing with Vlies if you are using a Rotex.
For semi-gloss, work up to 400 in Titan, then finsh with either Vlies 800, or on darker material 1000 in Platin.
Polish in rotary mode with the Vlies or Platin.
The darker the solid surface, the glossier the finish required. You will need to go to a finer grit to get a better (richer) look for dark colors.
For a high gloss finish work from 500 to 4000 in Platin.
Polish in
rotary mode with 1000, 2000 and 4000.

Technique is important.
On your first pass you will sand the surface in either a horizontal or vertical direction.
Your second pass will be at right angle to your first pass.
Be sure to sand the entire surface.
Your final pass will be in a clockwise, circular motion.
Be sure to overlap each section on a large surface, like working to a wet edge when painting.
Do this with each successive grit.
A general rule is to spend 10 seconds on each square foot.
This method will ensure good coverage and a uniform finish.

If I order from you, will I get my tool faster?

The quickest way to purchase a tool is to shop at one of our dealers. If that isn

How do I change the splinter guard on my guide rail?

To replace the splinter guard on the guide rail, first peel the old one off.
You will notice that the adhesive backing remains on the guide rail.
It is not always necessary to remove this, and it provides a sticky base to attach the new splinter guard.
To remove the adhesive backing, use either a plastic scraper or piece of hardwood to avoid scratching the guide rail.
You will be able to remove most of the adhesive with a little work.
What residue remains can be removed with solvent.
You will want to make sure that the surface is clean and dry before applying the new splinter guard.

Apply the new splinter guard being careful to avoid wrinkles and bubbles.
After it is applied, you will want to roll something along the splinter guard to assure good adhesion.
You will follow the same procedure you used initially to cut back the splinter guard with the saw.

What type of sandpaper should I use?

Rubin is recommended for bare wood, its coating prevents wood fibers from clogging.
It can also be used for removing old paint.
For finer grit paper than the 180 offered in Rubin, use Brilliant.
Never use Titan on bare wood.

Brilliant is recommended for paints and varnishes and for sanding between coats.
It has an antistatic coating to prevent clogging.
Brilliant may also be used on solid surfaces and plastics.

Titan is recommended for solid surfaces and auto painting.
The stearate coating prevents clogging.

Saphir has a durable cloth backing and is ideal for removing old finishes, and can be used for grinding concrete products or metal.
Vlies 100 is for roughening, cleaning or degreasing.
Vlies 280 and 800 is used for polishing solid surface.
Platin is for high gloss finishes.

What is the 6' interface pad used for?

It acts as a cushioning device. It helps with sanding cambered surfaces or profiles. It is very good for extra fine sanding.

How long does the 6' long life pad last? What is different between the normal 6' soft pad and the long life pad?

The long life sanding pad (491935) will last up to three times as long as the standard sanding pad.
It has a reinforced edge and a distinct hook and loop design which is more heat resistant.
It is recommended for the Rotex.

Can I use any brand of sandpaper with my Festool sander?

Other manufacturers now offer our hole pattern on their sanding discs, though using a disc that is not compatible with our unique hook and loop design may shorten the sanding pad life.
Festool sanding discs are comptitively priced and because they are made from the finest quality material, offer good value.

How do I remove the lid of a Systainer?

Open the cover and you will see the hinge pins at the corners. Using a needle-nose pliers, grasp the pin close to the center.
Pry outward using the cover part of the hinge as a leverage point. The pin will move easily for about 1/8 inch until the retaining tabs catch.
With a little more effort, ease it out the rest of the way. If you grasp it from the outside, you will get more leverage, being careful not to mar the flange.

Does it make sense to use the Festool antistatic hose with another brand of dust extractor, or should I purchase the regular, non-antistatic hose?

What makes an antistatic hose antistatic is that it conducts static electricity to ground.
Festool antistatic hoses have no visible electric leads; the high-carbon plastic they are made from conducts high voltage.
The tool is grounded by way of the hose, through dust extractor, to the ground where it is plugged.
If there is an open ground where the dust extractor is plugged, there is still the possibility of electric shock from the high voltage static charge produced by moving dust.

Some dust extraction systems have a visible copper lead where you attach the hose.
In that case, the conductive Festool antistatic hose will work to ground the tool to that dust extraction system.
The ground must be continuous however for the system to work.
The outlet it

Can I run my CT vac without a bag?

We do not recommend running your Festool dust extractor without the appropriate filter bag unless you are going to use it as a wet vac.
The filter bag is the first stage filter element in the filtration system, filtering down to .5 microns.
To run the dust extractor without a bag will ruin the HEPA filter, an item which costs roughly ten times as much as a filter bag.
Running your dust extractor without a bag will eventually expose the motor to dust and shorten the life of the unit.
The advantage to using the throw-away dust bag is that you avoid exposure to potentially hazardous dust.
If you attempt to alter the filter bag in order to reuse it, you risk ruining the HEPA filter.

How do you connect multiple hoses together?

You can connect two hoses using a connector sleeve (493047) and corresponding rotating adaptor specific to your hose diameter, either D27:(452892), D36: (452894) or D50:(452896).

You simply remove the reducing sleeve, the part that attaches to the tool and replace it with a rotating adapter. You use the connector sleeve to attach two hoses.
We do not recommend running more than 7m of hose.

What are the different hose diameters for?

The D27 hose works on all tools but the HL850 planer and on all cleaning sets except the Industrial cleaning set. The D36 hose is recommended for the router, planer and cleaning sets but will not work on the sanders or the Industrial cleaning set. The D50 hose is used on the Industrial cleaning set and can be connected with other hose diameters to create a longer hose.

Is the CT Longlife bag washable?

We do not recommend washing the Longlife filter bag.
The Longlife filter bag is a reusable bag for use with dust extraction on cutting operations using the saw, router or planer where you are generating coarse waste.
The longlife bag is not intended to be used for sanding or for use with hazardous dust types.
The longlife filter bag is made from nonwoven polyester fabric and is actually the first stage filter in the dust extraction system.

The Festool system is versatile.
All three Festool air sanders can be used interchangeably on one IAS hose.
The system can be adapted for use with a central dust extraction unit.
An adaptor is available to set up in two work stations off of one dust extractor.
The entire system is mobile and has large casters for ease of movement across the shop.

Festool boasts the best dust extraction in the industry.
Effective dust collection saves clean up time and complies with OSHA

I just purchased a TS75. It makes an odd sound like a bad bearing at start up. Others have likened it to a saw running on low voltage struggling to get going. Research indicates that this is normal. But I am curious as to what exactly this noise is. I

What you are hearing is the Multi Material Control electronics.
This is probably the first intelligent saw you have used.
The Festool saw is unique.
There is an integrated circuit on board which regulates the speed by sending power to the motor in various sized bits to ensure constant speed under load for improved cut quality.
If other manufacturers used similar pulse-width modulation speed control in their saws, customers would come to expect such strange noises.
The motor is constantly engaging and disengaging to keep the saw blade rotating at a constant speed.
Most of the sound is being produced by backlash between the small pinion gear on the rotor and the larger gear that drives the blade.
The saw blade behaves like a flywheel and has inertia that keeps it rotating while the small gear has slowed down. The opposite sides of the teeth tap against each other and the vibration conducts to the saw blade where it radiates like a speaker. Some of the noise is created by the field coil wires and plates which vibrate from the pulsing magnetism as they energize and de-energize.
This noise is particularly noticeable in soft start as the saw ramps up.
So the strange sound you hear is actually quite normal.
The best way to test the saw really is to make a cut.
You will see that it runs smoothly under load no matter what you are cutting.

How does the Domino joiner compare to a biscuit joiner?

The Domino joiner is faster, stronger and more versatile than a biscuit joiner.
You can use it on narrower stock for face frames, chair details and railings.
The handy stops and fences allow you to perfectly position the Domino joiner without the need to layout and measure.
Using the tightest registration on the mortise width dial enables you to use the Domino loose tenons to index your work piece for perfect registration.
Solid beech Domino tenons are strong and allow for true mortise and tenon joinery.

A biscuit joiner uses a saw blade to cut kerfs that you insert a biscuit comprised of compressed beech shavings.
The biscuit has a loose fit as it expands significantly when glued.
A biscuit is helpful when indexing a work piece, but cannot be used for exact registration.
The biscuit size generally limits application to wider stock.
The joint is not strong enough for certain furniture applications.
The Domino joiner uses a router bit which both spins and sweeps from side to side to carve out a mortise in which you insert a solid beech Domino loose tenon.
There are three width settings which allow you to use the Domino joiner for exact registration, or a looser fit for ease of assembly.
You can use the Domino joiner to join members that are as small as 7/8

Do you offer resharpening services for your circular saw blades?

We don't provide a sharpening service and have heard that customers experience the same difficulty that you have getting their blades sharpened.

You may want to check to see who else sharpens blades in your area and see who your local professionals recommend.
Some have had better luck shipping blades out to a competent shop.
Under normal use, those blades can be resharpened 5 - 7 times.

The guide stop for my OF 1400 router came apart. How do I put it together again?

The guide stop is a fairly simple design, please see the manual for the OF 1400 router.
It has a picture which will help you reassemble it.
If one of the knobs came off, the metal plate, spring and short channel attach underneath, in that order.
The micro-adjuster will attach to either block, it screws into the threads on one side and slides into the slot on the other.

What

There are a number of advantages to the Rotex dual mode sander.
I will list a couple here.
For complete details on the Rotex, please see the links listed below.
The Rotary mode of the Rotex uses gear reduction to develop high torque at low rpm for aggressive stock removal like a belt sander.
The eccentric action of the sanding pad erases its scratch pattern as it sands so you have less surface damage than a belt sander.
Less surface damage means less reworking and quick transition through sanding grits.
Save time, finish sooner.
Switch to the eccentric mode and you have a random orbital fine finish sander.
The rotary mode with eccentric stroke also allows you to polish without holograms.
Dual mode sander means you will save on tool costs compared to what you would have to spend buying separate tools.
Save money.
The Rotex captures dust right at the source efficiently with its unique jet stream pad design.
Efficient dust extraction means less time prepping for dust control and less time cleaning up.
It also prevents build up on the abrasives.
Abrasives last longer.
You'll save money on abrasives.
Faster stock removal and quicker transition through grits means less reworking, finishing sooner.

If you detach the filter bag and seal it with the cap provided, you can leave it in its bay and prevent leaking while transporting the unit.

Why do I need the fast stock removal mode of the Rotex sanders?

The Rotex sander has two sanding modes, a rotary mode and a random orbital mode.
The rotary mode is gear driven and produces high torque at low rpm.
It won

Will the hose that comes with the CT 22 work with my RO 150 E? The RO 150 E has an oval connector for dust extraction. Do I need an adapter to use the new CT 22?

Simply pinch the hose and conform it to the shape of the dust extraction port then wiggle it on.
The RO 150 E, the OF 1010 and the DX 93 all have oval dust extraction ports.
The hose that comes with our CT series dust extractors will work on these tools.
The flexible hose end will bend and conform to their shape.

Can I use other routers with the VS 600?

The templates on the VS 600 require specific router bits and copy rings.
If you can attach a same-size copy ring and use our bit, it will work.
The copy ring we make for the VS 600 has a flange that keeps the router from rising off of the template when using a dove tail bit.
That is the advantage of using a Festool router.

How do I attach the OF 1400 router to the guide plate of the hole drilling system and how do I center it?

There are two predrilled holes in the guide plate of the hole drilling set that match the threaded insets on the bottom of the base plate of the OF 1400.
When you attach the OF 1400 to the guide plate with the screws provided, it self-aligns and is centered.
There is no need to use the centering mandrel.

The centering mandrel is for use with the OF 1010 router which attaches using the knob and washer assembly.
The centering mandrel is used to align the OF 1010 router with the guide plate.

What does HiQ stand for Festool bits? What is the difference between the Pozidriv HiQ PZ 1-100 bit and Pozidrive HiQ PZ 1-25 bit?

The HiQ designation stands for high quality, which includes our durable Zirconium Nitride (ZrN) coating.
ZrN is a hard and heat resistant ceramic material. It has excellent erosion resistance, reduces friction and is less likely to chip or break.
Regarding the 1-100 designation, the 1 stands for the bit size, and the 100 is the length in millimeters.
So the '25' bits are almost an inch long and the '100' bits just short of four inches.

Can the CT dust extractors be used without dust bags? What is the downside?

Using the CT dust extractor without a bag will damage the unit in a short time and lead to costly repairs.
The filter bag on the CT series dust extractor is the first stage filter element in the filtering system.
It does most of the work capturing the bulk of dust, filtering down to .5 microns.
What escapes the bag is captured in the filter element of the unit, filtering down to .3 microns on the CT 22 and CT 33, which are HEPA rated, or filtering down to .5 microns on the CT Mini and Midi.
Nothing escapes the unit without passing through the main filter.
Without a bag, that filter is bombarded and will eventually fail.
Because you don

Why is the HEPA dust extractor not suitable for 'hazardous dust'?

Classified among hazardous dusts are explosive materials.
Festool dust extractors are not intended for use with explosive materials, or materials that pose a potential fire hazard.
Most people are not aware that aluminium dust is highly explosive.
We do not recommend sanding aluminium with our sanders and dust extractors.

Using a dust extractor with a HEPA filter does not eliminate exposure to hazardous dust, nor does Festool make that guarantee.

Can the Domino cutters be resharpened?

Domino cutters can be resharpened as many as 3 times.
After 3 sharpenings they become too short to mortise the necessary depth.
Domino cutters will bore between 4,000 and 15,000 mortises before they require sharpening.
On average, 4,000 mortises into end grain on hardwood, and 15,000 mortises into side grain on soft wood.

What size are the dog holes in the MDF top on the MFT, and what is their on-center layout?

The dog holes on the MFT are bored at 20 mm, and are laid out in a 9.5 cm on-center grid.

Which Sander and paper would you recommend to polish the cut edge of a granite counter top?

We recommend the ETS 150/3 for polishing seams on granite composite countertops using 180, 320, 500 and 800 Titan 2 abrasives. Any of the Festool random orbital sanders can be for this application, some prefer ETS 150/5 as it has a more aggressive sanding stroke.
Either sander provides one-handed ease of use, and the best dust extraction in the industry.
When fabricating granite composite countertops, you glue the apron to the deck, round over the edge, then sand the glue seem from 180-800 grit to bring the edge as close as possible to the factory finish.
Do not attempt to sand or polish the surface of granite composite as you may scratch and dull the surface.
Always follow the manufacturer
