Project Course: Box Making

Overview: Building boxes is a practical way of learning many woodworking skills. Below we offer two courses, one for basic skills, and another course to learn more advances skills.

Basic Box Making

Utilising solid timber and finishing with oil.

Finished Project: You leave with a hand made box made from your preferred timber.

Included: The base course costs includes the following:

  • Instruction by Terry Fogarty.
  • Use of all power and hand tools at the Ideal Tools Festool Workshop.
  • All consumables including dominos, glue, abrasives, etc. Please note: Finishing products not included as this is not in scope.

Timber: You will need to select and order your preferred species of timber for the project. We will arrange this for you and have the timber delivered to our workshop in suitable/quantities sizes prior to you beginning your first session.

Target Audience: This course is designed for beginner woodworkers.

Location and Instructor: The course is conducted at the Ideal Tools Festool Workshop (Williamstown VIC), Click here to read more about our workshop. Things to bring: Ensure you are wearing clothing suitable to working in a timber workshop environment. Personal protection equipment (ear-muffs, glasses) is available, but you may wish to bring your own.

Class size: Small - a maximum of 6 participants. Each participant has the use of their own workbench and set of hand-tools, with communal assembly spaces, communal powered tools and machinery, and additional communal hand tools.

 

Advanced Box Making

Utilising solid timber and veneer, hardware installation, i.e. lock and escutcheons, and finishing with oil.

Finished Project: You leave with a hand made box made from your preferred timber, plus accents in other timbers (a selection is available at the workshop on the day).

Included: The base course costs includes the following:

  • Instruction by Terry Fogarty.
  • Use of all power and hand tools at the Ideal Tools Festool Workshop.
  • All consumables including dominos, glue, abrasives, etc. Please note: Finishing products not included as this is not in scope.
