The transparent cover and swivelling top compartments provide a clear overview of the contents of the lid. The SYS-SB can be configured individually using a selection of plastic containers in different sizes.

I purchased one of these SYS-SB cantilevered style toolboxes hoping that it would solve my tool storage problems. For years I have spent a lot of money & time trying to find the “perfect” toolbox for my hand tools.
I have put it through some pretty heavy daily use over the last 12 months on site & in the workshop as a carpenter & joiner. My main activities are building & installing kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, shopfitting & general carpentry fixouts.
I have had no issues with durability or wear & tear despite it being transported on the back of a ute & in my tool trailer. It has survived being manhandled in & out of job sites, vehicles & the workshop daily without incurring any damage.
Coupled with the SYS-TB-1 open toolbox attached below it I am able to carry my most used/essential hand tools in a compact & easy to access manner. All my tools are easy to find & the two boxes are able to hold a surprisingly large number of tools. I also take this setup for measure-ups as it holds all my measuring & marking out equipment too. It takes up very little space & will even fit on the floor in the front passenger side of most cars with room to spare.
Inside there are plenty of storage options for tools & incidental items of all shapes & sizes. The ability to keep things organized & separate is a welcome change from other toolboxes I’ve tried over the last 20 years. I have found it to be very lightweight & surprisingly weatherproof – mine frequently gets wet when working on site & whilst being transported. I haven’t had any problems with any water getting inside due to rain, so long as it is closed properly. This is a big advantage over the nylon style “tool-tote” bags that I have tried which didn’t protect their contents when they got wet – moisture would get in through the base of the bag if they sat in water for too long & they would also leak through the zippers.
It may seem excessive, but I store nearly all my hand & power tools in festool systainers. I have a large number of tools for different types of work. By having separate systainers filled with “tools sets” for different applications I am able to take only the tools I need for a given task. Also, by keeping all my tools in systainers, I am able to maximise the limited available space in my tool trailer & on the back of my ute. I can stack them on top of each other when they are being transported & when carrying them in & out of buildings. By clipping them together I can carry multiple boxes in & out of a job at the same time which really speeds things up & reduces then number of trips back to my vehicle . They also make pretty good improvised work platforms for small jobs when I’ve forgotten my saw stools or can’t be bothered making another trip out to the ute to get them.
I’d rate the SYS-SB as a much better option for storing hand tools than a regular systainer as it allows you the ability to organize your tools better. By storing tools/items in “layers” they are much easier to find & access. The only downside I’ve found is that you need to ensure more space around the SYS-SB compared to a conventional systainer when opening the trays to access the compartments at the bottom. This is splitting hairs though & it is still easily the best solution I have found to suit how I work & like organize my equipment. Finally I can stop looking for a “better” toolbox.
